Opportunities for Small Pieces and Integration

More integration work As customers realize that they aren't stuck with single-vendor solutions any more, maybe even that single-vendor solutions are no longer a fruitful approach, smaller shops and development teams may get back the opportunities that the large software vendors have attempted to claim.
More development work Open extensible formats offer the chance to do more things with data than a given software package might come with. As much of this work will be case-by-case, smaller development organizations may get more of a chance to tackle such projects.
More customization work As much of the integration and development will be designed to meet particular needs, a lot of it will probably have to be done on a customer-by-customer basis. While this is true of much integration work today, the use of XML in application architectures should open the amount of work that smaller development organizations can do by making the details accessible.
