Server-side solutions
-
Ship only HTML
Many Web sites, even those switching to XML for backend document management, are using XSLT and similar transformation technologies to convert the XML they create into HTML for end-user consumption in browsers.
-
XML can still help
While limiting XML usage to the server may seem limiting to developers, especially those of us who wanted XML to replace HTML, XML may still provide a more useful and more flexible foundation for document management than HTML.
-
Multiple output formats
Transformations provide an opportunity to deliver information in formats customized to user needs. This could include Dynamic HTML implementations for various versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape Communicator, as well as Wireless Markup Language (WML) for cell phones and other formats for computer-only processing.
