The sublime had its day a century or so ago. Today we've realized that finger-painting, too, is art of a sort though the Metropolitan shows very little of it. We still seek to escape the everyday with these crazy canvases, sculptures, and symphonies, but we develop new ways of escaping the everyday every day. First film and then video were granted some prestige, at least granted showings. Now the computer is slowly gaining acceptance in the art world, first as a tool for use in other forms, now as a medium on its own, a self-contained digital presenter of content and form.
