Morse had a start on digital communications with the telegraph's short-long-short but never broke the data far enough to give an equal value to each short and long or treat them as logical operators. Binary logic allows us to use the simple switch, on or off, to create results that fill the entire spectrum between on and off. Eight bits add up to a byte capable of holding 256 levels, and bytes can be added to bytes and the complexity level increased further and further and further beyond 1-0-1-0-1-1-0-1É
