Radio

Marconi was the first to develop the commercial potential of wireless, and radio moved quickly from a curiosity to a necessity in shipping and the military. The entertainment potential was uncertain at first, especially given the high cost of equipment at the beginning, but news and music expanded into the airwaves. Radio created a new kind of community, and a new level of sponsorship advertising.
