not Anno Domini any longer but analog to digital - the first step toward freeing information of its physical existence and encoding it as a pure flow of bits, a signal in a chip or moving down a wire or a strand of fiber optic cable. Not all information needs to return to the analog world to regain its "meaning." Some of it is content to remain in the realm of numbers, our social security number representing us but simultaneously representing something else we haven't quite grasped.
